The next Secure Unified Research Environment (SURE) training session will be held on 13 June 2013 in Sydney. This workshop has been developed to provide information on data management, data security and legislative and ethical requirements to support researchers accessing and using SURE and conducting research on linked data files.

Overview of workshop: SURE is a remote-access computing environment developed by the Sax Institute that allows researchers to access and analyse linked data files for approved studies. SURE offers a number of benefits to researchers including new opportunities to collaborate and work with advanced computing facilities but a key part of the security model of SURE is to ensure the safe use of research data within the facility is education on legislative, ethics committees and data custodian requirements, information and computer security and principles of statistical disclosure control.

The workshop will cover:

  • legal and ethical considerations for researchers when conducting linked data research;
  • key concepts in information security and risk management and the design of SURE; and
  • principles and methods of statistical disclosure control.

Presenters: Ms Jo Khoo, SURE Manager, Sax Institute and Dr Tim Churcher, SURE Epidemiologist and Technical Advisor, Sax Institute.
